JEE Main 2021: Education Ministry Removes 75% Eligibility Criteria

JEE Main 2021: Education Ministry Removes 75% Eligibility Criteria

Students qualifying only the JEE Main, irrespective of the marks they have secured in Class 12 board exams, will be eligible for admission to NITs, IIITs, SPAs and other CFTIs, said Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal.

Earlier, only students who scored a minimum 75 per cent marks in the Class 12 board exams or in their qualifying examinations were eligible for admission to BE / BTech / BArch / BPlanning courses in NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs.

"Considering the decision taken for IIT JEE (Advanced) and in line with the decision taken for the last academic year, it has been decided to waive off the 75% marks (in class 12 exam) eligibility criteria under Joint Entrance Examination (Main) for the next academic year 2021-2022 in respect of NITs, IIITs, SPAs and other CFTIs, whose admissions are based on JEE (Main)," Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal tweeted.

The Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) had last year relaxed norms for admissions into NITs and CFTIs.

NITs will admit undergraduate students based on their performance in JEE Mains. Earlier, along with the performance in JEE Mains, NITs used to demand either 75 per cent mark in the board examinations or a place in the top 20 percentile of their respective boards.

The Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main) is a national level entrance exam held for admission to 31 National Institute of Technology (NITs), 25 Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), and 28 Government Funded Technical Institutes. JEE Main 2021 will be conducted four times from this year and the first JEE Main session is scheduled to be held in February. The application to JEE Main 2021 is underway and candidates can apply online through the JEE Main login window at jeemain.nta.nic.in.

The conducting body of IIT JEE Advanced, Joint Admission Board (JAB), has also relaxed the 75 per cent eligibility criteria earlier. JEE Advanced qualifying candidates become eligible for admission to various undergraduate Engineering, Science and Architecture courses in 23 IITs. Applicants to apply for JEE Advanced, however, have to qualify the JEE Main first.
